Lucas
Lucas is the pretty boy of the family. I was really keen to get in to breed showing (not anymore!) but wanted to keep with a working temperament so Lucas was perfect coming from a mix of show and champion obedience lines.Lucas is my second ever border collie and a bit of a challenge. He is very high strung, reactive and a bit head strong. I wasn't familiar with how to handle this dog in a sociable sense and so for the first couple of years we hit speed bumps. But we have grown as a team and now have a great understanding. I believe Lucas has made me better as a handler. The plus side of this type of temperament is he has drive to burn and so desperately wants to please, he will keep at something til he gets it right without any encouragement or reward. He will give it everything. He is lovely to work because he is so focused and energetic.
We dabbled in a bit of breed showing and Lucas was awarded Baby in Show at the Collie Club Show, and a couple of placings in NZ bred Stakes. That wasn't my kind of scene so we moved on to obedience and agility.
After just a few shows Lucas has won out of jumpers C! He is very fast for a dog of substance!
To date Lucas has only been to 2 obedience shows and is progressing well in the novice class
